Challenge: Our client, a wet bench OEM, was struggling to balance system lifespan with performance and speed. Previous designs had experience premature failure due to the highly caustic environment present in wet bench processing applications.
Solution: The XZ system was redesigned to be driven by linear motor technologies to increase the life. Z-Axis linear motor applications typically are problematic due to the ever-present force of gravity acting on the system; Motion Solutions was able to use a pneumatic counterbalance mechanism to offset the 145 lb load on the Z-axis. The X-axis 30ft linear motor stage demonstrates the size and capability of Motion Solutions.
Result: The wet-bench system life increased 500% and enables multiple Z-axis heads to increase throughput.
